- Day 1 (Monday 11th November 2024)
Akwaaba – Welcome!
Arrive in KIA, Accra – Ghana. Transfer from airport to hotel. Check into your hotel. Overnight at
agreed hotel (Labadi Beach Hotel)
- Day 2 (Tuesday 12th November)
Accra City Tour
After breakfast, depart for a sightseeing tour of Accra. You will drive
through the administrative and economic districts of Accra, the capital
of Ghana. This 139-year-old city has a blend of colonial and modern
architecture that summarize her history. You will visit the W. E. B.
Dubois Centre for Pan African Culture, Independence/ Black Star
Square and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. End your tour at the Arts
Centre where you will have an opportunity to use your bargaining skills
to shop from an open-air market for artefacts from Ghana and West
Africa. Overnight and dinner at hotel in Accra.
- Day 4 (Thursday 14th November)
Elmina Castle and Elmina Walking Tour
Early morning after breakfast, depart hotel and visit the Elmina Castle
built by the Portuguese in 1482 and also known as St. George’s
Castle. This castle was the first European structure built in Sub –
Saharan Africa. The colourful harbour nestled below the Elmina
Castle, full of pirogues preparing to go to sea offers one of West
Africa’s greatest photo opportunities.
Later in the afternoon, embark on a guided walking tour of Elmina,
which was the first point of European contact in Sub-Saharan Africa.
It was once the most cosmopolitan city in Tropical Africa. Climb the
Jago Hill to Fort Saint Jargo, which was used by the Dutch as a post
to snatch the Elmina Castle from the Portuguese. You will be thrilled
by the various Colonial Dutch Cemeteries as well as the colorful
Asafo (Fante Traditional Soldiers) Posts with their philosophical
symbols. Overnight at Coconut Grove Beach Resort at Elmina.
- DAY 5 AND 6 (Friday 15
th and Saturday 16
th November)
After breakfast we move to the oil city of Ghana. Thus, the Western
Region of Ghana to visit the magnificent village on stilt, Nzulezu.
Nzulezu is village entirely built on stilt. it is constructed out of wood and
raffia with one central walkway with dozens of houses on both sides of
the walkway on river Amansuri. The only way to get there is to travel
5km in a local canoe. The most striking features that catches the eye
of many tourists are the accommodation facilities hanging 5ft above
the lake level and also visit fort Apolonia at Benyin village and Dixcov
village. Overnight at Maaha beach resort or Tenac beach resort hotel. After breakfast move toward
the garden city of Ghana, Kumasi in the Ashanti region.
- Day 7 (Sunday 17
th November)
Assin Manso – Kumasi City Tour
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and drive through the forest zone
to Kumasi, the seat of the Ashanti Empire to explore the legends of the
famous Ashanti’s, whose legacies are still evident today. Enroute, stop at
Assin Manso. Visit the site of “Donkor Nsuo”, the former Slave River and
market, the final transit point for many enslaved Africans. This is the final
resting place for two ancestors whose mortal remains were returned from
the USA and Jamaica and re-interred there.
Continue your drive to Kumasi where you will visit Manhyia Palace
Museum to obtain firsthand information on the legacies of the Ashanti
Kingdom. A regal history that dates to 1700 is told with relics and artefacts.
Enjoy a drive through the city with monuments dedicated to the memory
of the great Ashanti people. End the day’s tour at the National Cultural Center which features the
Prempeh II Jubilee Museum and various studios of the brass makers, potters and batik makers.
Also take the opportunity to visit the unmovable Okomfo Anokye sword site. Which is said to be the
symbol of unity between the Nzema and the Asante ethnic group. Overnight at True Vine Hotel in
Kumasi.
- Day 8 (Monday 18th November)
Ashanti Craft Villages
After breakfast, depart your hotel and devote this day to visiting the
three famous Ashanti craft villages. After breakfast, depart for Ahwiaa,
the wood carvers’ village, Ntonso, the home of Adinkra cloth, and
Bonwire, the Kente weaving village. You will have an opportunity to see
how African crafts are made and to buy directly from the artisans who
make them. Overnight at True Vine Hotel in Kumasi.
- Day 9 and 10 (Thursday 19
th and Friday 15th December)
Village Naming Ceremony
After breakfast, depart for a scenic drive to a beautiful village located in Prampram. You will have
the opportunity to pay a courtesy call on the paramount chief and elders amidst traditional drumming
and dancing by the villagers and participate in a naming ceremony, where you will be given a
traditional African name.
